Critical minerals and the current state of the mining industry

October 01, 2025

The mining industry is heating up as countries around the world look to sustainably source critical minerals

The energy transition is driving demand for critical minerals and metals around the world. From lithium and cobalt to graphite and rare earth elements, these precious resources are needed to produce the renewable energy technologies of the future.

Electric vehicles require copper, manganese, nickel, lithium, cobalt, graphite, and more. Solar panels are produced using copper, zinc, and silicon. Wind turbines need copper, manganese, nickel, chromium, zinc, and rare earth elements. And the list goes on, from electrical infrastructure to batteries.??

Our teams engineer some of the world’s largest mine sites, assisting in everything from permitting and environmental monitoring to mine closure and asset transformation. We understand that every aspect of mining must be considered carefully if we hope to sustainably source minerals while being responsible stewards of the environment.?

Our Critical Minerals Leads Cody Ryckman and Kevin Kammerzell are at the forefront of the industry, helping mining companies to design and develop their mines throughout the entire lifecycle.?
