Montreal Garrison - Green Corridor Design
Taking advantage of infrastructure upgrades in a sector of the Montreal Garrison, Defence Construction Canada wanted to give 6th Avenue a new purpose. Their goal? Transforming this industrial walkway into a green corridor for the base’s personnel—integrating sports and recreational facilities into a predominantly natural setting. They engaged us to help bring this vision to life.
Our landscape architecture team reimagined a street that was formerly an industrial walkway into a safe, green corridor—with walking paths, pétanque courts (a sport where a ball is played towards a target ball), picnic tables, terraces, planting beds, and an outdoor fitness circuit. In collaboration with an engineering team, we designed a welcoming and functional space featuring smart lighting, multiple rest and social areas, and a multi-station training circuit. We also tackled several technical challenges that included ventilation system integration, infrastructure access, and optimal stormwater management strategies.
Stretching over 700 metres (3,000 feet), this reinvented walkway has become the social heart of the Garrison, offering a green oasis to the personnel. This project shows the potential for transforming industrial sites into vibrant urban spaces.
