Axalta Global Innovation Center Business Advisory and Design Services

Known for their development of specialized coatings, Axalta wanted to construct a new research and development facility (R&D) in Philadelphia. They engaged our team to provide comprehensive business advisory services to guide their selection of a strategic location in the Navy Yard. Our services included asset and site evaluations, conceptual planning, transaction support, regulatory coordination, and market outreach.

We also provided architecture and interior design services, focusing on flexibility for the Globa Innovation Center. The facility features adaptable laboratory spaces encircling a shared applications zone equipped with multiple spray booths for test sample painting. Satellite storage rooms, classified as hazardous occupancy, support each laboratory and provide safe, accessible management of raw materials and in-progress work. Offices are positioned along the building¡¯s perimeter, providing direct access and visibility to lab spaces, while a generous assembly area near the main entrance welcomes meetings and client events. The building is served by a central utility plant delivering steam, chilled water, and compressed air, and a regenerative thermal oxidizer treats exhaust from the spray booths, effectively removing volatile organic compounds.

The 200,000-gross-square-foot (18,581-gross-square-metre) Global Innovation Center fosters collaboration among Axalta employees, partners, and customers, supporting innovation and growth throughout the region. It also stands out as the world¡¯s largest R&D coatings facility.
