Sustainability & Building Performance

A building is a complicated living being

Building performance means so many different things. For the user it’s about comfort, wellbeing, safety, acoustics, light, and the practical use of space. If these elements create a positive experience, it’s good news for the investor and developers as well.

Investors and developers want assets that are energy efficient, low to zero carbon, and meet all legislative regulations—in particular around fire safety and energy performance certificate (EPC) ratings. It’s these high-performing credentials that also matter to the occupier for their own ESG commitments.

For both new building and retrofit projects, our sustainability consultants can help you implement optimal performance standards at the earliest conceptual design stage. We model energy use, assess material choices, and calculate whole-life carbon emissions to influence the energy and sustainability strategy. It’s an approach that delivers long-term value relating to comfort, energy efficiency, and environmental accreditations.

And our work doesn’t stop at construction and handover. This is where we regard a building as a living being.

We monitor how a building performs during use. By comparing real-time performance to the modelled performance of a building’s digital twin, we learn about human behaviours and modify systems to seek optimum energy efficiency and comfort.
